Licence is the rate the vendor publishes (or quotes). Infra is the runners, browsers, devices, or compute. CI is the minutes / sessions consumed by test runs. Engineer time is the hours spent maintaining, debugging, and re-authoring tests; it is the single biggest hidden cost.

Open-source is not free
Open-source runners (Playwright, Selenium, Appium) have zero licence cost but full engineer-time cost. Our TCO model applies a 1.25x to 1.6x engineer-hour multiplier depending on the runner; Selenium and Appium carry the highest multipliers.
